Welcome to the Advanced Sensor Technology Laboratory (ASTL)

The missions of the Advanced Sensor Technology Laboratory (ASTL) are focused on developing state-of-the-art sensor technologies for real-time diagnosis and prognosis of structural health conditions and providing a multi-disciplinary learning environment for students to participate in world class research activities.

Current research projects at ASTL cover a broad range of topics, including:

·         Unpowered wireless sensors for strain measurement and crack characterization

·         Polymer tip-based optical fiber sensor for distance, temperature, and refractive index measurement

·         Laser reflectance sensors for corrosion sensing and plastic deformation monitoring

·         Study of elastic wave generation using piezoelectric patches

This site contains further information on the Advanced Sensor Technology Laboratory (ASTL). Contact and communications welcome.
